O Património deixado por Portugal foi uma das razões pelas quais Malaca foi classificada como Património da Humanidade. Hoje dia 7 de Julho de 2010 celebra-se o seu segundo Aniversário em Malaca.
Sendo portuguesa e estando a coordenar o Projecto Povos-Cruzados no Bairro Português de Malaca, fui convidada pelo Regedor Peter Gomes a estar presente no segundo aniversário "Melaka World Heritage City".
"Num comunicado de imprensa divulgado pela UNESCO no dia 7 de Julho de 2008, Malaca (Melaka na actual denominação malasiana) e George Town surgem lado a lado como «cidades históricas dos Estreitos de Malaca (Malásia)», que «se desenvolveram durante 500 anos de comércio e trocas culturais entre o Oriente e o Ocidente», criando uma «herança multicultural específica». Malaca e George Town, acrescenta o Comité do Património Mundial da UNESCO reunido no Quebeque (Canadá), «constituem uma paisagem urbana arquitectónica e cultural única sem paralelo na Ásia Oriental e do Sudeste»". "On 7 July 2008, Melaka was declared a World Heritage City by UNESCO. Its heritage buildings, cultural enclaves and places of worship are visited by history buffs and tourists from around the globe. Participate in the second anniversary celebrations to commemorate the historic occasion.
Melaka and George Town, historic cities of the Straits of Malacca (Malaysia) have developed over 500 years of trading and cultural exchanges between East and West in the Straits of Malacca. The influences of Asia and Europe have endowed the towns with a specific multicultural heritage that is both tangible and intangible. With its government buildings, churches, squares and fortifications, Melaka demonstrates the early stages of this history originating in the 15th-century Malay sultanate and the Portuguese and Dutch periods beginning in the early 16th century. Featuring residential and commercial buildings, George Town represents the British era from the end of the 18th century. The two towns constitute a unique architectural and cultural townscape without parallel anywhere in East and Southeast Asia". By UNESCO
